Weekly Wrap-Up: April 23 – 29, 2017

Weekly Wrap-Up | rashon

It’s Friday! That means it’s time for my weekly wrap-up. This is my chance to tell you about what I’ve been up to, and what I’m loving this week! You’ll see that some of it is nutrition and health related, and some of it is just for fun. Let’s go!

What I’m Eating:

There’s not much excitement to report in terms of food. With the warm weather, we’ve been doing lots of grilling, and eating lots of salads. I’m craving salads a lot right now. One of my favorites is tomato, avocado, green onion with a little olive oil and red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar. So simple, and you can change it up a hundred ways with basil, cilantro or other herbs, and cheese, if you eat dairy. It’s the perfect summery side with any protein.

For the sake of keeping it real, I had a burger (gf bun, of course) and fries in celebration of my nephew’s 6th birthday. It was delicious, and I don’t feel bad about it one bit. If you haven’t read the latest objective for A Practical Guide to Wellness, you need to do so. It’s all about changing your mindset around food, and letting go of the guilt associated with food choices.

What I’m Reading:Weekly Wrap Up_Unstuffed | rashon

Unstuffed: Decluttering Your Home, Mind, and Soul  by Ruth Soukup. Y’all, I have to tell you that this book really spoke to me. While the book has some fantastic tips and practical solutions for decluttering your home, mind and soul, the author really shines in explaining WHY you should want to declutter these areas of your life. I won’t go into too much detail because I think you should read it! In particular, I loved her advice to create a vision for your home – how you want to use your home, how you want to feel at home, and how you want others to feel when they walk in the door. She also touches upon being less busy, and why busy doesn’t work so well in the long term. One of the most meaningful sections to me was about creating/cultivating real relationships, and letting go of toxic relationships, or those that just don’t seem to be working for you. As many of you know, I’m a pretty guarded person, but I crave real, true friendships, and it inspired me to really do my part to foster those relationships that I value. This is a quick read – I finished it in just a couple of sittings. Do yourself a favor and read this one!

What I’m Watching:

Bosch. This is an Amazon series, and season 3 was just released. I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit that we’ve already watched all of this season. Meh…it is what it is. In our defense, there are only 10 episodes. That makes a difference, right? Anyway, the main character, Harry Bosch, is a detective, and each season is based around one major case, with a few minor cases thrown in for good measure. We love that Bosch is a good-hearted guy, but he’s also not afraid to break the rules (or the law) to get things handled. His world view is jaded by the fact that his mother was a prostitute, and was murdered when he was kid. He’s also determined to solve her murder all these years later, and finally close the case. Give it a watch.

What I’m Listening To:

Me and Paul by Willie Nelson. I ❤️ Willie so much. I got to see him live a few years at a tribute to Johnny Cash. I mean, can you get any better than Willie and Johnny? I don’t think there’s a Willie song I don’t like, but this is one among many favorites.

What I’m Wearing:

Alright, y’all, I need your help. I’m in the market for a few activewear/workout type tank tops. I would prefer something with a looser fit and longer length so I can pair it with workout leggings. Something maybe similar-ish to the one below, only not so low cut on the sides. Anyone have suggestions or a favorite brand? Send your suggestions my way!

What I’m Loving:

I am totally loving the spring weather we’re having. It’s not too hot just yet, and we can still be outside. Chris and I have taken a few drives the past few weekends. I love when we just head out for awhile with no particular destination in mind. We almost always happen upon something fun. Last weekend, we were in Bastrop, and took a little detour coming home. We ended up at Red Rock Steakhouse & Saloon – this place had good food, and a great atmosphere. They have a beautiful outdoor area, so if you have kiddos, head over to the saloon side (full menu), and let your kids run wild outside. Chris said it was “the coolest biker bar set in your grandma’s backyard.” A couple of things: 1. I didn’t even know there was a Red Rock, TX. 2. There is the cutest house across the street from the restaurant, and for about 20 minutes, I was ready to move there. 3. If you’re looking for a short drive from Austin, and a relaxed afternoon, go check this place out.
