It’s Friday! That means it’s time for my weekly wrap-up. This is my chance to tell you about what I’ve been up to, and what I’m loving this week! You’ll see that some of it is nutrition and health related, and some of it is just for fun. Let’s go!

What I’m Eating:

Our schedules have been absolutely crazy this week, and I’m sure many of you know exactly how that feels. This week has been about making the best choices for food while not being at home, or being able to cook at home. Here are some things I ate this week, and maybe some inspiration for you the next time you’re out of the house.

  • My husband cooked for me and my stepson Sunday night. We had steak, kale pesto-stuffed mushroom caps and a delicious slaw made from kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, radicchio, pumpkin seeds and few dried cranberries for a little sweetness. It was so delicious, and so wonderful to eat a home cooked meal!
  • Salad with chile-rubbed chicken, figs, pears, walnuts, blue cheese and a champagne vinaigrette. It was super filling and had plenty of protein and healthy fats!
  • Lettuce wraps with Boar’s Head turkey, avocado and tomato slices. I ate this with some veggies and hummus on the side. This was one of the few meals I got to throw together at home.
  • A lettuce wrapped burger. I grabbed this at a local place that uses high quality beef with no antibiotics or hormones. I wish I had had more veggies for this meal, but overall, it was a choice that I felt good about with plenty of protein (and I skipped the fries!).
  • Indian take-out. I like to get Chicken Tikka Masala or Saag paneer and I ask them to add extra veggies to the curry. This time I opted for the Saag and it was loaded with cauliflower, carrots, green beans and zucchini, in addition to the spinach of the dish. I only ate about 1/2 cup of rice. I love Indian food because there are always lots of ways to add in extra veggies, and the curries are full of flavor and have tons of nutrients and antioxidants in the spices!
  • Kale chips and almonds. I had a bag of almonds in my purse this week just in case I needed a snack. Kale chips were the snack for a class I was teaching this week, and I had some of those to tide me over until I could eat dinner.

What I’m Reading:

The Thyroid Connection: Why You Feel Tired, Brain-Fogged, And Overweight – And How To Get Your
Life Back
, by Amy Myers, MD. I just got my copy of this book, and can’t wait to start reading it. Dr. Myers takes a functional approach to treating her patients, and really looks for the root causes of health problems as opposed to just treating symptoms.Thyroid Connection by Amy Myers, MD |rashon

What I’m Watching:

I haven’t had much time for TV. That’s probably a good thing in some ways. I’ve missed both the Presidential and VP debates, which I’m pretty much okay with. We did watch the last two episodes of Big Bang Theory the other night because we just needed a few laughs. Any shows I usually watch, I haven’t gotten to watch at all the past week and a half, so I’m behind on all my stories!

What I’m Wearing:

I bought a really cute shirtdress a few months ago, wore it once, and promptly forgot about it. I wore it this week, and it will be perfect for this transitional weather (cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon, still really warm). When it gets cooler, I plan to pair it with leggings and riding boots. Mine isn’t quite like the one pictured from Nordstrom – it’s a little lighter and has a pinstripe, but the one in the picture is so cute, and on sale right now!Shirtdress - Fall Fashion | rashon

What I’m Loving:

I came across this video this week, and loved it. To be fair, the animation and voices are a bit odd, but I love the concept of shopping math. I’m going to start operating with the idea that when you buy things on sale, they’re basically free, so you can buy more! 😉 Let’s go shopping!

What I’m Looking Forward To:

I have a new series coming to the blog soon! Proper nutrition and healthy living have to be practical in order for us to make it part of our everyday lives, and I’ve known from the beginning that I wanted rashon to be a practical guide to wellness (it is my tagline, after all!). In the next few weeks, I’ll be launching my practical challenge series! It will be small changes – sometimes food, sometimes lifestyle – that you can implement each week (or over the course of a few weeks) to be a healthier you! I’m really excited for this, and hope that you will be, too!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I know that so many of us have been touched by breast cancer – whether personally or someone we know – and I wanted a way that I could give back to support prevention research and education. For the month of October, when you make a purchase through my Beautycounter link, I will donate 50% of my commission to the Breast Cancer Fund. If you make a purchase and would like a donation made in honor of someone you know that has been affected by breast cancer, just send me an email with their name so we can recognize and honor them together.

I wrote more about why I’m choosing to support the Breast Cancer Fund in my Beauty on a Mission post.

I will also be doing some (full-size!) product giveaways later this month, so be sure you’re following me on social media: FacebookInstagram and Twitter.

What are your favorites from the week?

Disclosure: I am a Beautycounter consultant. Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
